At least in the turbine channel we can look for some of those fish that wont be taking an overland route, to drop back downstream filling in the fast water gravel sections. What does the Oak Orchard River, the Lakeshore and other WNY tribs offer? Salmon are starting to stage in shallow water and becoming more active. The other area smaller tribs have med or slightly high and stained flows. There is some icing up in spots but theres still drifting slots to be found. Flows in the Oak are clearing slowly and hanging in somewhere between med and slightly high. Upstream swamp headwater supplies seem brim full so look for flows to be pretty well maintained and on a continued slow clearing. For now on the Oak, anglers seem to be hooking up on a few steelhead nearest the dam that came along with the higher flows of a few weeks ago mixed in with a handful of fresh fish trickling in thru the downstream fast water. Its a difficult forecast to predict what may happen to trib conditions but any over-the-all colder temps that will come along with the icing or snow should continue the dropping and clearing trend in the waterways to moderate in the Oak and low in the smaller waterways. Fresh steelhead chances for late winter, early spring usually means high and stained and cold water challenging drifts. A dropping and clearing water scenario is a contrast for what youd rather see as rising or high flows for best chances at fresh fish migrations. Real light fishing pressure today, only one car observed in the parking spots on the Oak. $67,400 Total Cash Pay-Out Rivermouth action has been slow to start but might be picking up as near shore waters cooled down a touch after couple days of med E winds. The rest of the Oak, like after the confluence, were high water fishable by at least this past Sunday thru about yesterday as the overflow levels diminished. Fishing pressure looks more like the end of November than the beginning of November for this mid week period so far.
